Degree outcomes · College Scorecard · national medians

Highest-paying college majors: graduate earnings by field, from federal data.

Every field of study and credential level with a national Scorecard earnings figure for at least 500 graduates, five years after completing. Filter by degree level, search a major, or sort.

Updated Oct 30, 2026 · Data: College Scorecard (data updated Oct 15, 2026)
Quick answer

Among 202 bachelor's fields with at least 500 graduates measured, College Scorecard's highest national median earnings five years after completing are: Pharmacy, Pharmaceutical Sciences, and Administration ($125,131), Computer Engineering ($118,456), Mathematics and Computer Science ($117,154), Marine Transportation ($116,579), Computer Science ($116,280). These are earnings of graduates who received federal aid and were working and not enrolled (2024 dollars), ranked by field of study, not by career.

Data The ranking unit is a 4-digit field of study at one credential level. Bachelor's, master's and associate's figures describe different programs and should be compared within a level.

FAQ

Common questions

What is the highest-paying major?
Among 202 bachelor's fields with at least 500 graduates measured, College Scorecard's highest national median earnings five years after completing are Pharmacy, Pharmaceutical Sciences, and Administration, at $125,131.
Does a high-paying major guarantee high pay?
No. These are medians for past federal-aid graduates; half earned less, and individual results depend on the job, place and person.
Why do some lists show different numbers?
Many lists use job pay for all workers or self-reported surveys. Scorecard measures tax-reported earnings of a defined group of graduates at a fixed time after completing.
Method

How this page is built

Rows are College Scorecard national medians (EARN_MDN_5YR_NAT) and 25th/75th percentiles for each 4-digit CIP field and credential level, for graduates who completed in 2016-17 or 2017-18, measured in 2022 and 2023. Fields with fewer than 500 graduates measured are left out because privacy noise matters more in small groups. Nothing is averaged or estimated.

What this page can't tell you
  • Graduates without federal aid, or who were enrolled, not working or deceased in the measurement year.
  • Tuition paid, private loans, interest, taxes, lifetime earnings, cause and effect, or any individual's outcome.
